Sal Kal. Low sodium tablet salt

Sodium Consumption and Hypertension

"The link between sodium and hypertension is as firm as the link between high cholesterol and heart disease."
- Dr. Lol Page, Chief of Medicine at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Statistically the link is clear. The incidence of hypertension is higher in regions where sodium intake is high. For example: in the northern agricultural provinces of Japan where the average consumption is nearly 6 teaspoons (about 25g) of salt per day, close to 40% of the residents have high blood pressure. Research and studies also show a close relationship between salt consumption and hypertension.

The Table Salt With A Difference

Quite unlike ordinary table salt, SAL KAL is low in sodium and high in potassium. It is harvested from an isolated inland salt lake that is free from industrial pollution. SAL KAL
  1. is purified;
  2. contains 50% less sodium than ordinary table salt;
  3. supplements our intake of potassium and
  4. is non-bitter
The Benefits of Sodium Reduction
  1. Lower blood pressure;
  2. Lower rate of mortality from stroke - a reduction of sodium by 100mmol (6gm of salt) per day, would reduce mortality from stroke by 39%;
  3. Lower rate of mortality from ischaemic heart disease. Reducing sodium intake by 100mmol or(6gm of salt)a day would reduce mortality from ischaemic heart disease by an estimated 30%;
  4. Enhanced effects of hypertensive medications specially beta- blockers, diuretics and ACE inhibitors. With some people, the reduction of sodium intake may even eliminate the need for medication.
Role of Potassium in the Body
Amongst other things, potassium aids in the:
  • proper functioning of the muscles and nerves;
  • regulation of water content in the body;
  • acid-base balance of the body and
  • acts as a co-factor for enzymes that are needed to synthesize protein and starch, as well as other metabolic processes.

Clinical studies show that potassium supplementation will lower blood pressure, and that this effect is enhanced with a reduction in sodium intake.
